5 VITAL TERMS YOU SHOULD KNOW WHEN YOU WANT TO MAKE SALES ONLINE

Did you know there’s a measurement for the time a person spends on your site? Ah yes, the beauty of Google Analytics…

You can give a number to the percentage (%) of people that land on your site and immediately leave… and this is called your bounce rate.

Do you know what your bounce rate is?

The world of websites, and social media marketing is complicated. It can be confusing. No wait, it is confusing. Often, we feel like the latest, greatest mega-buck-makery-online-method is permanently breathing down our neck…

This is partially because it’s true. Most business owners aren’t ever kept updated about what’s new and important for their websites. In fact, we’d argue that this is why so many South African businesses update their websites every 6 years and never taking an active role to engage with the online traffic where their online customers are waiting… Thus, making it hard for their future customers to find them! Simply put… There’s just so much to learn – and no one’s teaching it…

At Zoomination.co.za, we’d like to help fix this, starting with five ONLINE MARKETING terms we think every business should know if they want to make online sales…

1. COPY-WRITING

You may be reading this going… What’s that?

Well – every advertisement you’ve ever read anything on was written by a copy-writer. Their goal is to write for adverts and websites for you, with the idea of getting people interested in your company. And believe it or not, yes! It’s real… Even when you, the business owner, are writing a “quick advert” for your business, you are fulfilling the role of a copy-writer… The question is, can this work be outsourced to a professional?

2. TRAFFIC (as a commodity)

Similar to how a highway billboard is charged based on the number of average cars that pass by it… (i.e. traffic) Traffic online is measured in the number of potential people you can send towards one place – and companies have centred entire profits on this method of getting customers. Mainly, because it works for pretty much everyone.

You can use platforms such as Facebook Ads, Google AdWords etc. to direct people toward something of interest (*cough our next point, SPLASH PAGES.)

3. SALES/SPLASH PAGES

We go in depth on this in our Splash Page 101 blog, but this is a term that we find every business, in every industry (yes, even you engineering firms) can benefit from using.

Essentially, amidst the confusion of online distraction, a SPLASH PAGE is built to sell one idea (and only that!) We call this the cure for confusion. Think of your splash page as the knowledgeable sales person that doesn’t quit – their job is to convey this one idea (without confusing the prospect) and drive a decision. A Splash Page does this, 24/7, 365 days a year.

4. BOUNCE RATE

Did you know there’s a measurement for the time a person spends on your site? Ah yes, the beauty of Google Analytics.  You can give a number to the percentage (%) of people that land on your site and immediately leave… and this is called your bounce rate.

Do you know what your bounce rate is?

5. CONVERSION

What happens when a person doesn’t bounce off your site, allows your virtual salesperson to educate them about your one idea and then promptly makes a decision to invest? This is what we’d call a conversion.

And this is the goal. To increase the number of conversations you can get, for your traffic directed to your splash page.

When all five of these terms are used, in relation to one another, you create something called an… ONLINE SALES MECHANISM

This “something” will do 3 things:

  • Boost the number of people that see your brand
  • Build you a database of people that have seen you and bought your idea,
  • Create a separate list of people that have seen you, and haven’t yet bought your idea,

And in a modern world, where you have WAY more options than simply “door-to-door and telemarketing sales” – we’d advise every business owner to find themselves an online sales mechanism.
